(Phoenix, Arizona) – Jakel Huckaby (09/05) and Elena Marie Rodriguez (05/05) have been indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury for nine felony charges.

Huckaby is facing four counts of manslaughter, class two dangerous felonies, one count of aggravated assault, a class three dangerous felony, three counts of endangerment, class six dangerous felonies, and one count of theft of means of transportation, a class three felony.*

Rodriguez is facing four counts of manslaughter, class two dangerous felonies, one count of aggravated assault, a class three dangerous felony, three counts of endangerment, class six dangerous felonies, and one count of leaving the scene of fatal accident, a class three felony.*

Huckaby and Rodriguez have been charged for a crash that occurred in the early morning hours of July 22, 2022, near 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road where four people were killed and several others were injured. Initial police reports indicate Huckaby and Rodriguez were involved in street racing behavior shortly before the crash.

“The senseless acts by these two individuals have brought pain and suffering to the families of those killed. This type of reckless behavior must stop and for those who continue to engage in this type of dangerous activity, you will be held accountable,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.

*A charge in a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
