The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office Crime Analysis and Research Unit (CARU) provides research and analytical support to law enforcement and prosecutors in a collaborative and proactive effort to reduce criminal activity impacting Maricopa County. MCAO analysts are tasked with numerous requests during a typical day, but their focus remains on being part of a collaborative effort to reduce crime.
CARU often works behind-the-scenes assisting Deputy County Attorneys, and organizing and researching information for pending trials. CARU is also involved in several proactive projects to identify potential persons of interest in repeat criminal activity across the County.
One of the most successful programs has been the collaboration with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) initiative. CGIC is a grant-funded program that brings together multiple law enforcement agencies to investigate gun crimes and gun violence. CARU works with the ATF, local agencies, and prosecutors to share information on court dates and links to related cases.
CARU analysts are also engaged in partnerships and task forces with law enforcement agencies across Maricopa County and they support many associations and criminal justice groups, allowing them to network with law enforcement across the county, the state, and the U.S. CARU is proud to be able to collaborate with agencies across the County. Whether it is assisting a fellow analyst at a law enforcement agency across the street or throughout the entire state, CARU is honored to support and salute everyone in the Maricopa County law enforcement community.
