PHOENIX— Today James Koryor (D.O.B. 02/10/1974) was found guilty of negligent homicide and child abuse in connection to the death of his 2-year-old son.
“This case involves the senseless death of a young innocent victim, whose life was cut short by the careless and self-centered actions of his father,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.
Koryor told investigators that on the afternoon of April 20, 2015 he went to run an errand and had his two youngest children in the car. Once he returned back to the family home he went inside and took a nap, telling investigators, a couple hours later woke up to his wife screaming after she found their youngest son still inside the car and not responsive. Koryor admitted to investigators he had been drinking earlier that day and after returning home became tired. The older child in the car was able to get out on his own, but the victim was not. Experts estimated the temperature inside the car was between 132-137 degrees.
Sentencing is set for February 16, 2018.
