PHOENIX– Employee volunteers from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will be out in force throughout the community this summer offering a free program that teaches children about personal safety and provides parents with resources to protect kids at home, in public, and on the internet. The program, Safe Kids Summer, will be held at local shopping malls, public parks and community pools throughout Maricopa County.
At each location, children will have a chance to play safety games while parents can obtain a Child ID Kit and information on how to help children avoid making choices that can lead to criminal behavior.
“We created Safe Kids Summer to provide a fun and convenient way to educate families on how to handle potentially harmful situations that can occur in everyday life,” remarked Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. “Our goal is to reach every city and town in Maricopa County with the program this summer,” he added.
Now in its fourth year, Safe Kids Summer has reached thousands of children and parents, teaching them about issues ranging from water safety to child abuse prevention. MCAO volunteers staff each event and offer prizes to kids who can answer safety-related questions. Free Child ID Kits distributed at the events provide parents with an easy and effective way to record identifying information for their children in the event that it is later needed by law enforcement.
