PHOENIX, AZ (May 30, 2013) – Children will learn useful tips on how to stay safe at home, in public, around the pool and on the internet at Safe Kids Summer 2013, a series of free events held at local shopping malls, public parks and community pools throughout Maricopa County. Presented by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Safe Kids Summer also provides a range of resources to parents, including Child ID Kits and information on how to help children avoid making choices that can lead to criminal behavior. Additional safety presentations by the Arizona Chapter of the Red Cross, Phoenix Children’s Injury Prevention Center, the Arizona Department of Health Services and other organizations will be offered at selected locations.
“Our Safe Kids Summer events are a great way for parents and children to learn how to handle potentially harmful situations kids can encounter in everyday life,” remarked Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. “This year we’ve expanded the number of venues and participating partner organizations so that we can continue to fulfill our mission of protecting and strengthening the communities we serve,” he added.
Now in its third year, Safe Kids Summer events have reached thousands of children and parents, educating them on topics ranging from water safety to child abuse prevention. MCAO volunteers staff each event and offer prizes to kids who can answer safety-related questions. Free Child ID Kits distributed at the events provide parents with a convenient and effective way to record identifying information for their children in the event that it is later needed by law enforcement. This year, Safe Kids Summer will be at six locations of the Radio Disney Summer Splash tour, where kid-themed entertainment and games will be provided.
