News from the
Maricopa County Attorney’s Office
January 2020
2019 was a remarkable year for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO.) As the nation’s third-largest prosecutorial agency, the role this agency plays in keeping our community safe is one we take very seriously. More than 1,000 employees, including approximately 330 prosecutors, 45 civil attorneys, and more than 600 administrative staff, focus on ethical excellence each and every day in pursuit of justice for the citizens of Maricopa County.
Protecting the rights of crime victims and holding criminals accountable remains our top priority. This year we received more than 54,000 felony submittals from local law enforcement agencies, which translated into nearly 37,000 felony filings.
However, our staff is also focused on preventing crime from happening in the first place. In this newsletter, you will find stories of employees who spend their time and efforts to support crime prevention and better our community through service to others. We also celebrate five employees who have dedicated 30 years of service to MCAO.
As we enter 2020, we look forward to continuing our service to you. We will be working on ways to offer even more alternatives to sentencing for those offenders who can benefit from treatment and counseling programs instead of prosecution. We will continue to provide educational programs, speakers and services, such as shredding and prescription drug take-back events, to help you and your family avoid becoming a victim of crime.
From all of us at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, we wish you and your family a safe and happy new year!
