The Gang Bureau aggressively investigates and prosecutes Criminal Street Gang members. Criminal Street Gangs are defined by law as ongoing formal or informal associations of persons whose members or associates individually or collectively engage in the commission, attempted commission, facilitation or solicitation of any felony act.
As a rule, Criminal Street Gang members who use or exhibit a deadly weapon in the course of a crime are generally not eligible for diversion or probation. Due to the danger to citizens and neighborhoods posed by these offenders, they are typically sentenced to substantial sentences in the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Gang activity frequently involves a wide range of crimes that affect our community, including; graffiti, burglary, rape, assault and even murder.
