Community-Based Prosecution Division

Within the 9,200 square mile jurisdiction of Maricopa County, crime can vary greatly from one neighborhood or region to another. The Community-Based Prosecution Division is organized into four separate bureaus to address these regional differences. Within each bureau, prosecutors work in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and community members to identify crime trends and prosecute offenses that occur in different geographic areas of the County (PDF).

Central Valley Bureau prosecutes cases submitted by police departments in the cities of Phoenix (Central City, Mountain View and Desert Horizon precincts), Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, along with District 4 of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Metro Central District.

Northwest Valley Bureau prosecutes cases submitted by police departments in the cities of Phoenix (Cactus Park and Black Mountain precincts), Glendale, El Mirage, Peoria, Surprise, Wickenburg, along with District 3 of the MCSO (including Lake Pleasant) and DPS Metro West District.

East Valley Bureau prosecutes cases submitted by police departments in the cities of Tempe (including ASU PD), Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Fountain Hills, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation along with Districts 1, 5 (minus Lake Pleasant), 6 and 7 of the MCSO and DPS Metro East and Northern Districts.

Southwest Valley Bureau prosecutes cases submitted by police departments in the cities of Phoenix (South Mountain, Estrella Mountain and Maryvale precincts), Goodyear, Buckeye, Tolleson, Avondale, the Gila River Indian Community along with District 2 of the MCSO and DPS Southern District.
