Sexual Offenses
As part of this team approach, the Sex Crimes prosecutors are supporting partners in the advocacy center approach to the investigation and treatment of abuse victims. These advocacy centers are located throughout Arizona and are designed to provide on-site services to victims.
In addition, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office contracts with medical professionals to provide the most sensitive and efficient examination of victims of abuse. These professionals are available on a 24-hour basis and their services allow victims to avoid waiting long periods of time to be examined.
In fiscal year 2005-2006, our Sex Crimes Bureau received nearly 1,016 sexual assault cases for prosecution. Sadly, there are countless incidences that go unreported. The key to reducing this violence is reporting them. If you are a victim of sexual assault, there is help. The advocacy centers mentioned above have crisis counselors who can guide victims through the reporting process.
The County Attorney's Office produces two brochures concerning sexual offenses, both available in PDF format. The Sexual Assault Brochure addresses what to do after an assault and where to get assistance. The Sex Offender Notification for Neighborhoods & Communities Brochure discusses Arizona's sex offender notification system.
