Ever wonder what it's like to live in fear of deportation? A new computer game claims to give players an idea. The game puts players in the shoes of immigrants as they try to evade officials and in the process tries to soften the contentious debate over immigration. "A very large portion of the American public is not aware of how far the government has gone to strip this population of their human rights and due process," said Mallika Dutt, executive director of Breakthrough, a human-rights organization that created the computer game. The game, which can be downloaded at breakthrough.tv, is called ICED, which stands for I Can End Deportation. The title is a play on the acronym ICE, for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws. . .

Scottsdale Police say the business manager of a “convict” hip hop star may soon be sharing the same title.  Police were called to Scottsdale's W Hotelearly Mondaywhen concern rose of a possible fight between guests exiting the VIP area.  Arrested were Robert L. Carnes Jr. andwith Thomas Leon Anderson Jr.

Phoenix police are aggressively trying to reduce the number of near-daily home invasions and kidnappings, which helped earn the city the title of "kidnap-for-ransom capital" of the U.S.  Generally characterized as drug-related violence driven by gangs ripping off competitors, many of the kidnapping cases assigned to the city's robbery detectives involved masked gunmen armed with high-powered assault rifles and bulletproof vests, emulating tactical strike-team maneuvers to force others to forfeit drugs or cash.  But other experts said the crimes are primarily the work of small-time dealers trying to take advantage of the large number of stash houses scattered throughout the Valley, which serve as part of a nationwide distribution center for drug organizations.  http://www.azcentral.com

Tribune: Robbers with sledgehammer steal auto title paper 04-17 news story by Tessa Darling

Two men armed with a handgun and a sledgehammer stole blank auto title papers from a Mesa business Wednesday morning, Mesa police said.  The papers can be used to create fictitious titles for stolen vehicles so they can be sold on the open market.  Dan Gibbs, owner of East Valley Auto Title, said that neither he nor any of the people in the office at the time were hurt, but he said he thought one of the robbers tried to hit him with the sledgehammer.  “He started coming at me with the hammer, but then he slipped and fell,” Gibbs said.  Detective Diana Tapia, Mesa police spokeswoman, said two men entered East Valley Auto Title about 11:30 a.m. at 1017 S. Gilbert Road and ordered the employees to the ground. The two men demanded auto title stock, the paper on which automotive titles are printed.  http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/114099

TUCSON - A man accused of helping a former beauty queen kidnap her ex-boyfriend was arrested Friday following a 10-hour standoff with police, authorities said. Robert Ergonis, who has been wanted since the December kidnapping, refused to come out when police found him at a Tucson home Thursday night. At one point he told authorities he had a gun to his girlfriend's head, said Tucson police spokesman Sgt. Mark Robinson. The woman was released unharmed at about 3 a.m. Friday. Ergonis surrendered without incident about three hours later when police entered the home, said Robinson. Authorities issued an arrest warrant in December for Ergonis, accusing him of helping former beauty queen Kumari Fulbright kidnap her ex-boyfriend. Authorities said Fulbright bit the victim's ear and hand and stuck a butcher knife into his ear. The man was able to escape and call police. Fulbright, who competed for the Miss Arizona title in 2005 and 2006, was indicted in December on charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, armed robbery and aggravated assault. She is now free on bail. . .
