You see a news report on television about a court case. The video footage shows a prosecutor from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office presenting evidence in the case.

Where did the evidence come from? What was involved in investigating the case? How did the County Attorney's Office decide whether or not to prosecute the case? Discover the answers to these questions firsthand by participating in an innovative program that will allow participants to get a view of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office from the inside.

The Citizens Academy gives Maricopa County residents the chance to see first-hand the processing of a case through the criminal justice system. The program includes many "hands-on" experiences, such as observation of proceedings taking place in the Maricopa County Superior Court and being a part of a mock incident review board, in which academy members look at evidence from a mock case and decide whether to proceed with prosecution. In addition, Academy members will learn how forensic evidence is gathered and used in prosecuting cases and will have the opportunity to use the Phoenix Police Department's FATS (Firearms Training Simulator) machine.

Academy groups will be limited to approximately fourteen participants for each Academy session, to allow for a more personal experience.

If you are interested in participating in this exciting and informative program, submit your online registration by clicking here or call 602-506-5754 to be added to the list. Once your registration is received, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review your registration and call to confirm your spot in the next available class. Classes are held bi-monthly and filled on a first come first serve basis. If your organization or club is interested in attending as a group, please call in advance to make special arrangements
