Created in 1996, the Family Violence Bureau is responsible for prosecuting domestic violence cases, including child abuse and elder abuse offenses committed in Maricopa County. This bureau also handles domestic violence homicides and child abuse homicides.
Family violence differs from other types of violent crimes because of the relationship between the abuser and victim. Working in cooperation with several local agencies, the County Attorney’s Office has created a standardized approach to the investigation and prosecution of family violence cases. The goal is to reduce the amount and frequency of abuse in our community.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office Child Abuse brochure is available for download and lists signs and symptoms of child abuse as well as resources for victims. Also available is The Maricopa County Domestic Violence Protocol, a guide for law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, intervention programs, and the judicial system to help ensure that justice is served and the families in our community are kept safe. |
